Curriculum - Sacred Heart School
Curriculum Offerings
Sacred heart School follows the curriculum as approved through the Diocese
of Corpus Christi. The curriculum is based upon Texas Essential Knowledge
and Skills (TEKS) with some acceleration and the addition of religion.
Religion classes are a means of enlightening
the child’s mind and spirit while building a Catholic faith foundation on
which to grow.
Basic skills in Reading, English, Spelling, Writing, Math, Science, Social Studies,
Health, and Physical Education are emphasized and reinforced through study
and practical application. Curriculum Guidelines approved by the Diocese of
Corpus Christi Department of Schools are used by teachers in preparing their
daily lesson plans.
SHS continues to update its technology
resources each year to keep them among the finest in South
Texas. All students in grades 1-5 attend a regularly scheduled computer class
each week where real-world skills are taught under the direction of a full-time
technology instructor. In addition, the school’s high speed DSL Internet
connection gives both students and faculty members the ability to retrieve
useful information from thousands of content-screened online sources.
Classes in Liturgical Music, Art, and Spanish
are integral parts of the curriculum at Sacred Heart School.
Students are offered means of self-expression while creative development is
fostered and encouraged.
The Montessori classroom environment encourages
learning in the areas of practical life, sensorial, botany, geography, music,
language (reading), and math.
Religion Requirements
The school day begins and ends with prayer.
As a Catholic School, SHS places emphasis on Catholic religious education
and training. All students enjoy the benefits of learning and living God’s
Law of Love “Love God with your whole heart, mind, and soul. Love your neighbor
as yourself.” Prayer before and after meals is also encouraged.
Every Friday and on special feast days, the students attend the 8:00 a.m. Mass
as a school activity. Students are given the opportunity/responsibility to plan
and participate in the liturgy for these Masses.
There is always time for prayer at SHS.
