School Day Masses
Sacred Heart School students and staff attend Mass at Sacred Heart Church on Cornwall at N. Church Street every Friday morning during school at 8:00am as their religion class.
Parents may drop off their children beginning at 7:15am under the porte-cochere where the teacher aides will help them out of the car and into the church. Students wear their plaid uniforms and sit with their teachers. The classes rotate taking responsibility for the readings and leading the songs.
When other feast days of special significance occur on school days, the students and staff attend Mass on those days:
The Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary on August 15
The Feast of the Immaculate Conception on December 8
The Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe on December 12
Ash Wednesday
Parents are always welcome to attend the school Masses and sit behind the student body or in the north wing of the church.
Weekend Masses
There are usually several weekend Masses that the students and staff members are asked to attend at Sacred Heart Church such as:
The Third Sunday in September - 10:30am
The Sunday in January that begins National Catholic Schools Week - 10:30am
As Announced
The Blessing of the Animals on the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi
Each year on or near the 4th of October, the school celebrates the life of St. Francis and the love he showed to humans and animals alike by allowing parents to bring the family pets to school for a blessing. All pets brought must be under control of an adult during the visit and be taken home after the ceremony is over. This is scheduled on the calendar and happens at 8:00am. Parishioners are also welcome to participate.
The Stations of the Cross
The fifth graders usually lead these prayers for the 1st-4th graders during the Lenten season in the gym as part of their religion class.
